José Benavidez Sr., father and coach of the interim WBC super middleweight champion David Benavidez (27-0, 23 KO), spoke about his future plans.
“I would like to fight with Morrel, but I think that he is not at that level yet. He needs a little more fans. Maybe two or three more fights. He will then become more dangerous, but okay, let's take the fight with him now, no problem. I think David is able to beat him ahead of schedule, but two or three fights would make Morrel more dangerous. This guy is very talented, continues to learn. Gets a lot of experience, becomes stronger.
My son's fight with Morrel could be bigger in the future, but let's do it now. I think Mungui also has a lot of fans, he will steal some of the fans from Canelo if he fights my son. Two big Mexicans will step into the ring to show who is the best super middleweight.
If it fails, I would like revenge in a duel with Bivol, who is the killer of the Mexicans. Imagine if he fought my son. It would have been an even bigger fight than with Canelo. I would like the Bivol-Benavides fight to be called "Revenge of the Mexicans" or something like that. Imagine if he still defeats David. But beating Bivol will put us in a better position. We wouldn't even have to fight Canelo, fuck him.
We are ready for anything. We are patient. My son recently fought, now we are thinking about a fight in September or October. If he wants in September, we will do it. I think we should move up to light heavyweight for the Bivol fight. And then either go back to second middle or fight Beterbiev,” Benavidez Sr. told MillCity Boxing.
Recall that in March, Benavidez defeated Caleb Plant by decision of the judges.
