Lopez beats Taylor on points

Former lightweight king Teofimo Lopez (19-1, 13 KOs) defeated the previously undefeated WBO super welterweight champion Josh Taylor (19-1, 13 KOs) by unanimous decision in the main event of the evening in front of a packed Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York. Taylor actively started the fight, but Lopez took over after a few rounds and began to beat Taylor to choice. Later, Teofimo from time to time only exploded with combinations. Taylor came close to being on the floor in the twelfth round. Judges score: twice 115-113 and 117-111.

“Josh Taylor is a tough guy,” Lopez said after the fight. “I understand why he defeated so many fighters. But you are a counterpuncher, you need to beat him with his own weapon. You need to outwit him and impose your fight on him. And I did it. I think I did enough to win. That's the whole point."
