Former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman will make his long-awaited return to the cage on August 19 at UFC 292 in Boston. Brad Tavares will confront him.
This information is confirmed by MMA Fighting with reference to sources within the organization.
The upcoming bout will be Weidman's first UFC appearance since his fight with Urijah Hall in April 2021 ended in a horrific leg fracture.
In March of this year, 38-year-old Chris managed to hold a grappling match at UFC Fight Pass, after which he could hardly hold back tears.
“The last two years have been the hardest of my life,” he said at the time. “I don't want to cry but I don't know if you know this but I broke my leg in half in April 2021 and I wasn't sure if I would ever be able to compete again and so being able to come out here and put on a show for you guys, it's really a dream come true."
As for Tavares, the 35-year-old veteran will try to recover from two defeats in a row. In the last fight, held in April, he was knocked out by Bruno Silva.
