European junior champion shot dead in France

Sad news came from France. At the age of 22, Wilfried Florentin (3-0, 3 KOs), the 2019 European champion among juniors in the weight category up to 91 kg, died. Florentin worked as a security guard in a nightclub. On Sunday morning, a fight broke out on his shift. At some point, someone pulled out a gun and shot the boxer twice in the chest. After several hours of fighting for his life in one of the hospitals in Paris, doctors pronounced him dead.

Florentin started his professional career last September. After two heavyweight wins four weeks ago, he dropped down to cruiserweight division, weighed in at 89.2kg and quickly knocked out Kevin Gerard.

When Florentin competed in amateur boxing, he was disqualified for a fight with a coach, and for some time he had to box abroad.

The deceased had two children.
