Josh Taylor (19-0, 13 KOs) injured his leg and will not be able to prepare in time for the rematch with Jack Catterall (26-1, 13 KOs). This was reported by American journalist Mike Coppinger.
A press conference was to be held on Monday, during which the date of the second fight could be officially confirmed. Taylor will take a forced break from training for two months.
Their first duel took place in February of this year. After twelve rounds, the judges recorded a controversial victory for Taylor, who at that time held the WBC, IBF and WBA championship belts.
Most recently, Taylor has lost three titles due to refusing to fight federation-nominated mandatory challengers.
Taylor and Catterall attended last night's boxing match in Manchester, where in the main event Liam Smith quite unexpectedly stopped Chris Eubank Jr. in the fourth round. The couple was sitting very close by the ring, at some point a verbal skirmish ensued between them, and the guards had to intervene in the dialogue of the two gentlemen.
