Former two-division world champion Andre Ward shared his opinion on the 2023 megafight between lightweights Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia. Davis will return to the ring on January 7 when he faces undefeated world featherweight champion Hector Luis Garcia in the main event of the Showtime evening.

Garcia was supposed to return next month against Mercito Gesta, but ultimately decided against the upcoming return and now intends to wait for the fight with Davis. If Davis wins next month, the fight with Garcia will most likely take place in April.

One of Garcia's problems is his periods of inactivity. He fought only once each in 2020 and 2021, and Davis also had a higher level of opposition. If their fight takes place in April, Garcia will take part in his first fight since July 2022 when he stopped former champion Javier Fortuna in the sixth round.

Davis hasn't stepped into the ring since knocking out Rolando Romero in May, and that's what motivated him to fight again to stay in shape.

Assessing the various factors in the Davis-Garcia showdown, Ward favors Davis.

“In this battle, you have to give preference to the Tank. This is not the best fight for any of the guys, but you have to give preference to Tank, based on experience, the best opponents, Tank's punching power and his boxing abilities, ”Ward said in an interview with Fighthype.com.

“Ryan is explosive, very fast, and Tank will have to deal with this somehow. This will create problems for the Tank until he catches up with him. The question for Ryan Garcia is, can he take a hit from Tank?" Ward said.
