Oliveira: "Makhachev got the title shot thanks to Khabib"

Former UFC Lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira expressed the opinion that his closest rival Islam Makhachev didn't deserve a title shot.

ā€œWe must respect our opponent. Islam leads a series of 10 fights in a row. He fights smart, but it seems to me that he caught the wrong wave. He flies on Khabib's wave. And there is. Even our fight was made thanks to Khabib, ā€said the Brazilian in the UFC Embedded issue.

The fight between Oliveira and Makhachev will headline the UFC 280 tournament, which will be held on October 22 in Abu Dhabi. A vacant lightweight belt will be at stake in the meeting.
