British regular WBA heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois (18-1, 17 KOs) will make his first belt defense on November 26 or December. His opponent will almost certainly be Kevin Lerena (28-1, 14 KOs), representative of South Africa.
Dubois won the title in June of this year by knocking out Trevor Bryan in the USA. Lerena is currently ranked thirteenth in the WBA rankings. He replaced Lucas Brown as the challenger who was blocked from entering the championship by the British Boxing Council.
Oleksandr Usyk remains the full-fledged WBA champion. The regular title is a kind of second-class belt, although its prestige and sporting significance are important.
The fight between Dubois and Lerena is, according to reports from across the ocean, at the stage of finalizing the deal. There should be an official announcement this week.
