Former heavyweight title contender 35-year-old Dillian Whyte (28-3, 19 KOs) hired Buddy McGirt as his new head coach and parted ways with previous coaches Xavier Miller and Harold Knight. Prior to them, White collaborated with Mark Tibbs for a long time.

"Buddy was a two-time world champion, he fought a lot of good guys and was in the corner of a lot of good guys," White told Sky Sports. - He understands boxing, he has many years of experience with world champions, and I think that this is what I need at this stage of my career. He knows how to make small changes and he has a lot of experience in big fights.”

The British Jamaican previously trained in Portugal but will now head across the ocean to train with McGirt in Los Angeles. McGirt is known for resurrecting the careers of some of the best boxers in the past two decades. Among his wards were Arturo Gatti, Vernon Forrest, Antonio Tarver and Sergey Kovalev.

In his last fight in April of this year, White lost ahead of schedule to Tyson Fury in the sixth round. White earned his other two losses against Anthony Joshua in 2015 and Alexander Povetkin in 2020.

McGirt, now 58, has also trained boxers such as Hasim Rahman and Paulie Malignaggi. He is currently coaching Janibek Alimkhanuly, who recently became the WBO middleweight champion. McGirt was named 2002 Coach of the Year by the American Boxing Writers Association.
