Tyson Fury (31-0-1, 23 KOs) had to officially inform the WBC management if he supports his decision to retire from the sport and if he is giving up his heavyweight championship belt. "The Gypsy King" was given another week to make that decision. The head of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Suleiman, said on Twitter that the reason for the extension is the tragic loss in Fury's family, but it seems that it is really more about a possible fight between Fury and Alexander Usik for four belts.
"Given the tragedy that has befallen Fury, we have decided to give Tyson seven more days [until Sept. 2] to decide his championship status," Suleiman wrote.
There were also media reports today that "Gypsy King's" representatives have notified the WBC in writing that the boxer intends to retain his title and continue his career. The promoters of the Briton have not yet confirmed this information.
