The day before yesterday, there were reports of the tragic death of Simizo Buthelezi (4-1, 2 KOs), and immediately after that, Sifesile Mntungwa (7-1-2, 4 KOs), his opponent in Sunday's ill-fated fight, admits that he cannot cope with this situation and experiencing obsessive suicidal thoughts.
Buthelezi suffered a head injury and internal bleeding. On Wednesday evening, Simizo, after two days of fighting for his life, died in a hospital in Durban, South Africa.
In the aforementioned bout, Buthelezi fought for the WBF African lightweight belt. Suddenly, in the last seconds of the battle, he turned around and began to hit the air, as if attacking an invisible opponent. The referee immediately stopped the fight, and the boxer was taken to the hospital, where he was put into a coma. Unfortunately, it was not possible to save him in the end.
Mntungwa admitted that the stress of his opponent's death made him think about suicide yesterday. And he can't handle this situation.
“This is a terrible tragedy. In addition, a wave of criticism hit me. I don't know how to deal with all this,” says Mntungwa.
