The leadership of the World Boxing Council refused to sanction a qualifying match for the world lightweight title, in which they were supposed to take part Ryan Garcia (22-0, 18 KOs) and Isaac Cruz (23-2-1, 16 KOs). The WBC explained its decision by saying that both boxers already have plans for the coming months.
Garcia's next fight is set to take place on July 16 at the Golden Boy Promotions in the United States. The 23-year-old boxer said he would like to cross gloves with Cruz this time, but his opponent is likely to be the former world featherweight champion. Javier Fortuna.
Cruz knocked out Yuriorkis Gamba in April, returning to the ring after losing to Gervonta Davis. The boxer from Mexico is due to return at a party organized in his homeland in August.
