Top Russian lightweight UFC Islam Makhachev supported the already former champion of his division Charles Oliveira, who failed the weigh-in before the fight with Justin Gaethje. Because of this, the Brazilian lost the title.

“In any case, keep your head up, Charles. Good luck to you tomorrow. We all know that you became a champion for a reason. And I will wait for the winner of this fight to meet him. We will challenge either the vacant title or the belt of the new champion,” Makhachev wrote on Twitter.

The fight between Oliveira and Gaethje will take place on the night of May 8 as part of the UFC 274 tournament in Phoenix.
