Teofimo Lopez (16-1, 12 KOs) complained that he had lost his championship belts because he could no longer make the lightweight limit. Josh Taylor (19-0, 13 KOs) cited the same reason for his poor performance in the fight as Jack Catterall and announced a possible move to welterweight. It was assumed that he would move up to a heavier weight category, but, perhaps, for the sake of Lopez, he would have another fight at 63.5 kilograms.
The Scot holds all four major super lightweight titles. He faces mandatory defenses, but perhaps the organizations will make a concession and allow the champion to fight with Lopez, who until recently ruled in lightweight. In addition, Lopez assures that the difference of 2.3 kilograms will help him box as before.
“We are currently negotiating a fight with Taylor for the title of absolute world champion in super lightweight. The boss (Bob Arum) is looking forward to that opportunity. So we are working on this meeting and we will see what comes out of it. I intend to win this category, I am still the boss, ”said the confident Lopez, who lost to George Cambosos by a split decision at the end of November.
