Gennady Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KOs) and Ryota Murata (16-2, 13 KOs) already met in 2014 when they had joint training in the USA. On April 9, in Saitama, Japan, they will face the unification of the IBF and WBA middleweight belts.
“Murata is a very good boxer, as evidenced by the fact that he was an Olympic champion and owns the WBA belt. We once stood in pairs with him, but these were not very strong sparring, but more about performing game tasks. I remember him as a serious fighter, intelligent in the ring, with a high boxing IQ,” recalls Golovkin.
Golovkin and Murata were supposed to meet at the end of last year, but the situation with the pandemic forced the organizers to postpone the fight. If Golovkin beats Murata, then almost certainly on September 17, already in the super middleweight limit, he will meet Saul Alvarez (57-1-2, 39 KOs) for the third time.
