Kostya Tszyu: "I never performed for Russia"

Kostya Tszyu, former undisputed boxing champion admitted that he had never represented Russia when he was in the professional ring.

"I came out with a flag at first and then I came out without a flag at all. I realized that first of all I represent myself. Professional sport is a bit different. Many athletes now live and train in America, but still perform for themselves. I have lived in Australia for over 20 years and this country has welcomed me as a native.

"I was leaving the Soviet Union, another country completely changed. I never performed for Russia. Now, being here, I can represent Russia. Because I'm here," Tszyu said.
