The situation could be such that the rematch Anthony Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) with Oleksandr Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) will not take place until next summer. The Briton said in an interview with IFL TV that if he makes changes to the coaching staff, he will need six months of preparation before a second fight with the Ukrainian takes place.
At the moment, Joshua is not firmly stating that there will be a change in his corner, but is considering the possibility. The Englishman recently visited the United States, where he visited prominent trainers and did some trial training with them. There has been unofficial news in the media that the British boxer is closest to working with Ronnie Shields at the moment.
However, the former world heavyweight champion has no intention of giving up his partnership with Rob McCracken, who has been his head trainer so far. Joshua has stated that he only wants to expand his coaching staff.
If the Brit does start working with a new coach, the second fight with Usyk won't take place until May-June at the earliest. Eddie Hearn previously reported that he is planning a rematch for the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight belts in March.
