Russian mixed martial arts fighter Alexander Emelianenko recalled his fight with Sergei Kharitonovwhich took place 15 years ago in the legendary Japanese promotion PRIDE. The heavyweight also revealed that even before the fight he rarely spoke to his famous brother Fedor.
"PRIDE made a small movie before the fight, before the exit to be interesting. They showed how I train, how he trains. And there Kharitonov had his sights set on Fedya, that Fedya was the next one. The prehistory was clear: now he would beat me, Alexander, and the next fight would take place with Fedor, he would beat Fedor and would take his belt. But it didn't happen.
No, it didn't hurt me. I just did not understand why he did it. There were only three of us in PRIDE, but there were plenty of other fighters to fight. Why? Moreover, we used to be good friends, he came to Oskol for the training camp, in Tula he had a training camp with Fedor. There were close relations between my family and Kharitonov. And then he started to get angry and started breathing venom in our direction. Did his behavior hurt Fedor's feelings? I didn't communicate with him about Kharitonov. We seldom communicated with Fedor, he was quiet. We only trained together. Even at the training camp we stayed in separate rooms", - stated Emelianenko Jr.
