Beterbiev vs Smith unification is scheduled for September 18

On September 18 Top Rank is planning a unification light heavyweight bout between WBO champion Joe Smith Jr. (27-3, 21 KOs) and WBC and IBF belt holder Artur Beterbiev (16-0, 16 KOs).

Smith, 31, also recently received an offer to take on former world middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs. However, it is doubtful that Bob Arum's company will move away from plans to unite the titles in the light heavyweight category.

In March, Beterbiev returned to the ring after almost a year and a half break. In the tenth round, the Russian stopped Adam Deines.
