Promoter Bob Arum has announced that he will try to convince boxing sanctioning organizations and local sports commissions to allow women to fight under the same conditions as men. Arum wants to increase the duration of the rounds of rounds in female boxing to three minutes.

The WBO Super Featherweight Champion Michaela Mayer (14-0, 5 KOs) will face Erica Farias (26-4, 10 KOs) in Las Vegas on Saturday. Mayer, 30, is the only woman on a Top Rank contract.

“We didn't want to invest in female boxing, but we met Michaela and she convinced us with her maturity and character. However, there is no doubt that something is missing in female fights. This is an extra minute that will make the fights more attractive. We will try to convince the local commissions that such a solution is worth implementing,” Arum said.

The first female tournament of the World Boxing Super Series is due to kick off later this year. Girls must compete in the super featherweight division. The names of the participants are not yet known.
