Deontay Wilder returns to training

Deontay Wilder and Malik Scott

Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has returned to training and is rumored to return to the ring in the next few months. Wilder has been out since February 2020 when he suffered his ...

Immediately after the fight, Wilder used his right for rematch, which was included in the contract, but the coronavirus pandemic intervened in the plans for its implementation, and the trilogy was postponed several times. By the end of the year, Fury and his team announced that the rematch clause had expired and they will have a different goal - a meeting with WBA, WBO and IBF champion Anthony Joshua.

Wilder did not want to leave without a fight - and initiated legal action to enforce his clause of rematch with Fury. The lawsuit may be decided in May. Regardless of the legal result, Fury will fight next against Joshua.

Plans for Wilder's return are currently unknown. However, Malik Scott, Wilder's assistant coach, recently revealed that his client has returned to training by posting a photo of himself on social media.

“Bronze Bomber, great session tonight, friend, it's time to get back in the game,” wrote Scott, who lost to Wilder in the first round in 2014. They were friends before this fight and continued to be friends after it. Ultimately, Wilder hired Scott as an assistant coach.

Obviously, Scott now holds a higher status on the team, especially with Wilder's decision to fire assistant coach Mark Breland, whom the boxer blamed for being defeated by Fury. It was Breland who threw the towel in the seventh round of Wilder's last fight.

One of the candidates to face Wilder in his comeback is former IBF World Champion Charles Martin. The other is former unified champion Andy Ruiz, who returns to the ring on May 1 against Chris Arreola.
