Teams of Ryan Garcia (21-0, 18 KOs) and Javier Fortuna (36-2-1, 25 KOs) have agreed to fight for an interim WBC lightweight title. The bout will take place in July in Las Vegas or Los Angeles.
The interim WBC title has been held since January by Garcia, who won it against Luke Campbell by TKO. The World Boxing Council recently designated Fortune as a challenger to a duel with a young American. Boxers' promoters had to agree on the details of the fight before April 16.
Fortuna, a former world featherweight champion, last fought in November. The winner of this fight will be a mandatory for Devin Haney, who is the full-fledged WBC lightweight champion. The American will return to the ring on May 29, crossing gloves with Jorge Linares.
