Interim WBC Heavyweight Champion Alexander Povetkin won't be ready for a rematch against Dillian Whyte in January. In August, Povetkin made one of the biggest upsets of the year when he knocked out Whyte with a powerful uppercut in the fifth round. Whyte was confidently leading on points after sending Povetkin to the floor twice in the fourth round.

After the fight, Whyte took advantage of the clause in his contract for an immediate rematch. A second appointment was scheduled for November, but later postponed after Povetkin was admitted to hospital with COVID-19. The approximate date of January 30 was discussed - and now this date is also not relevant.

According to the promoter of Povetkin, Andrey Ryabinsky, his boxer will need more time to recover from the coronavirus than they originally thought.

“The date is no longer relevant, but it will not move much, probably to the beginning of March. I think the fight will be in London. Negotiations are at the stage of determining the dates, everything else is there, we have agreed on everything," Ryabinsky said.
