Deontay Wilder (42-1-1, 41 KOs) in an interview with Brian Custer categorically ruled out his appearance in the new WBC weight category - the bridgerweight (up to 224 pounds).

ā€œI know that people have to make money, for this all these belts and so on. I understand that you need to make money, but as a boxer I don't understand all these weight classes. If this category was made for me, and I was offered to become its face, I would refuse!" the Bronze Bomber said.

ā€œMy career is in the heavyweight division, that's why I'm here. I can weigh 205 pounds, my opponents have always weighed more than me. I easily do 206 pounds or so. In the last fight I weighed 231 in order to gain more mass, for me this is not a problem. If I were to fall into a lighter weight class, I would make avocados out of these guys' faces, I have too much power for that. I'm knocking out guys now who weigh 30 or 50 pounds more than me. It's not the best option for me to go down,ā€ Deontay Wilder said.
