On March 17 in New York, Michael Conlan (11-0, 6 KOs) added to his asset another victory as a pro. The talented Irishman defeated Garcia Hernandez (24-4-2, 10 KOs) on points, defending his WBO intercontinental featherweight belt.
After the fight, Conlan challenged Vladimir Nikitin (3-0, 0 KOs), who beat Juan Tapia (8-3, 3 KOs) at the same evening. Conlan and Nikitin met at the Olympics in Rio-de-Janeiro. Then the Russian was declared the winner, to which Conlan responded by showing the middle finger to the judges. This decision was called very controversial by many boxing analytics.
