Transgender boxer scores his first victory in a pro fight

Transgender boxer Patricio Manuel of US won his first fight in the pro ranks. Last Saturday, Patricio “Pat” Manuel entered the ring against Hugo Aguilar of Mexico at the boxing evening in Indio, California. The fight in the super featherweight division ended with the victory of Manuel by unanimous decision.

“Hats off for my opponent. He fought me like a man. I have immense respect for him. I had to go through a lot to get here. I haven’t finished sports yet. I will come back,” said Manuel after the victory.

Until 2012, Manuel was a woman who was involved in sports, and was listed among the candidates for the US Women's Olympic boxing team.
