IOC froze plans for boxing at Olympics 2020

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has frozen plans for a boxing tournament at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This was informed by the official website of the IOC.

It is noted that this decision was made by the IOC Executive Committee because of the investigation into the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA). In November, Gafur Rakhimov was elected the president of AIBA. Rakhimov is included in the US Treasury sanctions list. The IOC believes that this may adversely affect the Olympic status of boxing.

The IOC may return to discuss the issue before the end of the year.
