In the main event of the evening at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Shawn Porter, in a spectacular battle scored a unanimous decision victory over former world champion Danny Garcia, and got the vacant WBC welterweight title. According to the organizers, 13,058 spectators attended the evening.

Garcia (34-2, 20 KOs) started the fight well, winning the first three rounds, but Porter (29-2-1, 17 KOs) was able to gain advantage in the meeting in the fourth round and take it under control through more aggressive actions. Garcia looked insecure at close range and during the clinches, and it was here that Porter picked up his points.

At a distance where there was more room for strikes, Garcia looked better. However, Porter did not give him space for action and was able to retain the advantage of most of the fight.

In the tenth, perhaps, the best round, both fighters went to trade blows. Nevertheless, Porter returned to his advantage in the last two rounds and won on the cards of all the judges 116-112 and 115-113 twice.
