Diaz could not make weight and will not challenge the title of Rojas

Featherweight Joseph Diaz Jr. was unable to make a 126 pound limit on Friday night and would not be able to challenge the title of Jesús Rojas in a fight to be held on Saturday at the Avalon in Hollywood, California.

This will be the first night of the promotion organization Golden Boy Promotions, which will be broadcasted on the Facebook Watch Internet platform. The broadcast will start on August 11, at 6 pm ET.

At the weigh-in, Rojas showed a mark of 125.8 pounds (57.06 kg), while Diaz was 126.6 pounds (57.42 kg) - just 0.6 pounds over the limit.

For Diaz, it could be the second consecutive attempt to challenge the champion title. This May Diaz lost by unanimous decision to Gary Russell, Jr. in a meeting with the title of another version at stake. Now, even if he wins in the Saturday fight, Diaz will not get the title and the belt, according to WBA rules, will remain with Rojas.

Overweight Diaz was fined 20% of his fee ($10,000) from his $50,000 purse. Half of this money will go to the California State Athletic Commission, the second half will go to Rojas plus to his $60,000 purse.
