WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders won a unanimous decision over the American Willie Monroe, Jr. in not the most interesting battle. Monroe did very little in the ring for the victory, and Saunders seemed to be happy with that and also did not much seek to accelerate. So the fight went slowly to the final bell, after which the judges felt that it is better to let the belt remain with Saunders: 117-111, 115-114 and 117-112.
After the fight, Saunders invited his son to the ring, who apologized to Monroe for a blow below the belt during the weigh-in.
