In his style, the Mexican set a high tempo from the first gong and broke down the Brit's defense. Hughes' corner took his boxer down after the fourth round. The fight was a qualifier for the IBF lightweight world title.
As part of the same evening, lightweight Floyd Schofield (17-0, 12 KOs) defeated Esteury Suero (13-2, 10 KOs) by disqualification in the fifth round.
