UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev explained why he expressed his desire to fight former interim belt holder Dustin Puryear.
"I know Dustin doesn't deserve a title fight, but right now we have no other choice. Everybody is busy. I want to fight. I want to do three fights this year. I had to call someone out and Puryear is now available. He put on a great performance and drew a beautiful knockout. He's now available, healthy, and I offered him a fight in June.
Nobody else will be ready. Maybe someone else will be ready, but I need the fight. I don't care. Right now I'm healthy, I'm training every day, and I need an opponent.
How will the fight with Puryear go? I'll move him, he'll try a guillotine and I'll take his back and choke him out. That's it," MMA Junkie quoted Makhachev as saying.
