UFC flyweight title challenger Marlon Vera of Ecuador believes his upcoming fight with division champion Sean O'Malley of the United States is of great importance to his country.
The bout will headline the UFC 299 show, which takes place March 9 in Miami.
"This is the most important fight of my career. People in Ecuador realize how significant this moment can be for the history of our country. This Saturday can be a huge celebration for me and my countrymen. I have prepared perfectly and I am happy to feel the support of my fans.
I always try to find weightier goals before fights than just fame and money. It's important for me to set an example, to show people that with hard work and dedication you can achieve your goals. So winning will give my country hope. I hope it will make at least a little difference," Vera said at a press conference.
Recall that O'Malley and Vera have already met in the octagon. Their first fight took place in August 2020 and ended with the victory of the Ecuadorian by technical knockout in the first round.
