Hearn responded to Stevenson's retirement announcement

The head of the promotion company Matchroom Boxing Eddie Hearn commented on the words of the WBC world lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson about the fact that he is leaving boxing.

“I think that sometimes fighters don’t really understand how the game works. Stevenson fought for the WBC lightweight title. As soon as you do this, you lose your place in the rankings of other organizations. When Navarrete moved up from featherweight to lightweight, he automatically became a mandatory challenger under WBO rules. And then they simply chose the next one in line.

So in reality, Shakur Stevenson was not even in the race for the WBO title. But he thought he should get the title shot. Top Rank will arrange the title fight, and then perhaps Stevenson will fight the winner.

So Stevenson started acting up, but I understand why Shakur is disappointed. He wants to become great and win all the belts. I'm confident he'll get his chance when the time comes. I don’t believe in any way that he’s finished his career,” Hearn said in an interview with the Matchroom Boxing YouTube channel.
