Atlas reacts angrily to Davis' promotion to full WBA lightweight champion

Reputable American coach Teddy Atlas commented on the WBA’s decision to increase Gervonta Davis to the status of a full-fledged lightweight champion of the organization.

“The people who know our business, the real fans, call the WBA regular belt the email title. I mean this is absurd. This is one of the reasons why I am trying to convene a national commission that, among other things, would deal with pensions for fighters, attracting honest referees and judges, and eradicating corruption. Besides, it would help get rid of this letter nonsense, these ratings organizations that have too much power. All they do is charge money to sanction fights, favor certain fighters, and do business with certain managers.

They belittle the authority of boxing and belittle the importance of belts. They don't mean anything! All that matters is that the public knows who the best fighter is. That's all I care about. These belts are out of control, there is a belt for everything!” - said Atlas.
