Progress has come in flashes for Whittaker, who has fought just 11 times in nearly four years as a pro. His 12th bout is scheduled for this Saturday in Liverpool, where he will take on Brian Suarez (21-4, 20 KOs).
If everything goes according to plan, Whittaker is expected to return on June 27 in Brooklyn. In the main event, Xander Zayas (23-0, 13 KOs) will defend his WBO and WBA junior middleweight titles against Jaron Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs). The news was confirmed by Eddie Hearn, who recently became Whittaker’s promoter.
