Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury made a statement about the reasons for his fifth return to the ring. On April 11, the Briton will fight Canadian Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur stadium in London.
Fury, who ended his career after two losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, spent more than a year without fights and officially announced his comeback in early January.
At a press conference before the bout, the 37-year-old boxer said the key moment in making the decision was a tragedy involving his fellow countryman Anthony Joshua.
In late December 2025, AJ was involved in a serious car accident in Nigeria, which resulted in the deaths of two of his close friends and team members. Learning about this tragedy while on vacation with his family, Fury reflected on the fragility of life.
“The turning point in my return was the tragedy that happened to Anthony Joshua. I heard all this news and thought: life is very short, very precious, and very fragile, and anything can happen at any moment. You should never put things off until tomorrow, next year, or next week because tomorrow is promised to no one. You need to live for today. That is when I decided to return to boxing,” Fury is quoted by the BBC.
