Zuffa Boxing has introduced weight limits for its boxers with whom it has contracts. The number of weight classes in boxing has been reduced by organizers from seventeen to eight.
Some weight categories in boxing are indeed absurd, for example, the difference between flyweight and super flyweight is only 1.35 kilograms. Another 'transitional' category—from super flyweight to bantamweight—is only 1.8 kilograms. That is why the organizers from Zuffa Boxing decided to reduce the number of weight categories.
In Zuffa Boxing, boxers will compete in the weight categories:
Heavyweight (over 200 pounds; over 90.7 kg)
Light Heavyweight (200 pounds; 90.7 kg)
Super Middleweight (175 pounds; 79.4 kg)
Middleweight (160 pounds; 72.5 kg)
Welterweight (147 pounds; 66.7 kg)
Lightweight (135 pounds; 61.2 kg)
Featherweight (126 pounds; 57.2 kg)
Bantamweight (118 pounds; 53.5 kg)
As previously announced, Jai Opetaia (29-0, 23 KO), also the IBF cruiserweight champion, and Brandon Glanton (21-3, 18 KO) will fight for the first Zuffa Boxing belt.
