Former trainer of Daniel Dubois Shane McGuigan shared his vision of the upcoming WBO world heavyweight title fight, in which the Briton will face fellow countryman Fabio Wardley. The fight is officially scheduled for May 9 in Manchester, and negotiations are already in the final stage.
McGuigan, who once worked with Dubois, is confident that the key to the former IBF champion's success lies not only in his powerful punch but also in the right approach to the fight.
'The fights with Usyk were a huge lesson for Daniel. His victories also taught him a lot, as did his defeats. Some boxers mature and gain real experience a little later. You can have a dozen fights in your early twenties, but they mean nothing if there's no real big boxing,' noted McGuigan.
According to him, Dubois has significantly gained experience after fights with Jarrell Miller, Martin Lerena, and, of course, Anthony Joshua. These meetings allowed him to 'see big boxing' and understand what is required at the top level.
'We have Fabio Wardley. Daniel is much more experienced than him, and I believe this will be a great fight specifically for Dubois. Both are huge punchers. But it will all come down to who can stay disciplined. I definitely think this is a winning fight for Daniel. If he boxes correctly, he will win. But if he goes in with the mindset of just knocking out Wardley at any cost, then I don't think so,' summarized the trainer.
Let us remind you that Wardley became the WBO belt holder after Oleksandr Usyk refused a mandatory defense in favor of other plans.
