The legendary undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather (50-0) has moved from gloves to subpoenas: on February 3, he filed a large-scale lawsuit in the California district court against Showtime and former Showtime Sports president Stephen Espinoza. He is demanding no less than 340 million dollars plus compensation for moral damages.
According to Mayweather, during the period of collaboration with Showtime (2013–2017), there was a whole scheme of financial fraud. The boxer claims that a significant portion of his record earnings from the key fights of his career — the fight with Manny Pacquiao (2015) and the match against Conor McGregor (2017) — was redirected directly to his then-advisor Al Haymon, bypassing a full settlement with the athlete himself.
“I should have received much more. Hundreds of millions of dollars just disappeared,” sources close to the lawsuit quote Mayweather as saying.
Notably, Al Haymon, a longtime influential promoter and advisor, is not listed among the defendants. The entire claim is directed specifically at Showtime and personally at Stephen Espinoza — the man who once personally extracted Mayweather from a long-standing collaboration with HBO and organized one of the most profitable contracts in boxing history.
Mayweather accuses the TV channel and its former head of aiding in the breach of fiduciary duties, engaging in civil conspiracy to commit fraud, misappropriation of property, and unjust enrichment.
Let us recall that Showtime ceased its boxing activities back in 2023 after the closure of Paramount's sports division.
