Serhiy Lapin, director of the team of WBA, WBC, and IBF world champion in the heavyweight division Oleksandr Usyk, shared his thoughts on a potential fight with Agit Kabayel, the WBC interim titleholder.
In an interview with the British edition talkSPORT, Lapin emphasized that there is no room for easy strolls at the elite heavyweight level. "In today's elite heavyweight division, there are no safe opponents. Every top-level fighter poses a threat. Kabayel is another possible option," he noted. According to the director, the German boxer with Turkish roots could become a serious challenge due to his aggressive style: constant pressure, high pace, and excellent physical conditioning.
But it's not just the sports intrigue that makes this match attractive. Lapin noted the commercial aspect: "We see how Germany responds to such fights, how they can fill stadiums, what a strong market it is."
Interestingly, Lapin also hinted at possible changes in Usyk's career. According to him, the champion may sign a contract with Dana White's promotion, the president of the UFC, who is increasingly entering the boxing business.
Recall that Usyk had his last fight in July last year, knocking out Daniel Dubois.
