WBO heavyweight world champion Fabio Wardley gave an extremely honest comment about the potential confrontation with 20-year-old Moses Itauma.
The Briton flatly stated that a fight between them will not take place in the foreseeable future, despite the constant talks by fans and media about a "clash of styles."
"Moses and I are clubmates now, we see each other in the gym every day, training side by side. Under such conditions, a fight is simply impossible—it's even strange to discuss," said Wardley.
At the same time, the champion emphasized that he wishes Itauma all the success and even record-breaking, but with an important caveat: "Just not for my belt. Let him go his own way, and I'll go mine."
Wardley also made it clear that for now, both boxers have too many tasks and mandatory defenses to seriously consider a confrontation. In his opinion, the most realistic scenario for their paths to merge would be when each collects 2-3 belts, making a fight almost inevitable.
For now, Wardley's main message is quite clear: "No need to rush things. Everything in its own time. And now is definitely not the time."
Recall that Wardley last entered the ring on October 25, when he defeated Joseph Parker by technical knockout.
