Crawford decided to retire not due to title issues but because of the natural wear and tear that comes with age. In his own words,
"My decision has nothing to do with the title situation. 38 years old is old in boxing; I've been in this since I was seven years old."Clearly, Crawford feels it's time to step back as he can still choose on his own terms.
Alongside physical demands, Crawford recently faced controversy involving the World Boxing Council. They reportedly stripped one of his titles due to a non-payment fee of $300,000. However, Crawford clarifies that financial reasons had no bearing on his decision to retire.
Speculation about his future surfaced weeks before he made this announcement. Crawford took time to clarify that money issues weren't involved in his decision and reasserted that the desire for a graceful exit marks his choice more than anything else.
