Michael Eifert before historic world championship fight – IBF could strip Bivol of the title

The German light heavyweight Michael Eifert is still waiting impatiently for his great chance: the IBF world championship title. Although he has been the official mandatory challenger for months, the fight is delayed because titleholder Dmitry Bivol has not yet submitted a request for a medical exemption to the IBF after an operation.

Eifert’s management emphasized to World Boxing News that the 26-year-old’s patience is not endless. "Michael has earned this title fight and has been preparing for it for a long time. Now it is time for him to have the opportunity to fight for the world championship," they say from his environment.

If Bivol does not submit an official request, the IBF is expected to order an immediate title defense against Eifert. This could lead to Bivol losing another of his world championship titles – while Eifert gets the historic opportunity to bring home a major belt in light heavyweight for the first time in years as the first German.
