Nick Ball and Sam Goodman Set for Clash with Surprising Purse: "It's Not About the Money"

Ronald Crawley Aug. 15, 2025, 1:10 p.m.

Ball, who holds a record of 22 wins, no losses, and one draw, will make his third title defense. The champion's purse has grown significantly since his early days in the ring. His first big payday came when he faced TJ Doheny, earning $500,000 for his first title defense. Now, Ball stands to make $1.2 million for this fight, marking his first million-dollar payday.

The challenger, Sam Goodman, brings an unblemished 20-0 record to the ring. He's moving up in weight for this shot at the title. Goodman's biggest payday so far was $200,000 for his unanimous decision win over Cesar Vaca in Sydney this May. For this title fight, he'll pocket $500,000.

"I'm more settled and stable as world champion now," Ball said. "A win here will open up even bigger opportunities down the line."

Goodman sees this as his chance to climb to the top of the division.

"This is my big opportunity," Goodman stated. "I aim to take control of the featherweight division with a win on Saturday."

The stakes are high for both fighters. They'll put their undefeated records on the line, with one man potentially suffering his first career loss. There's also the possibility of a draw, which would let both keep their perfect records intact.

In the co-main event, heavyweights Moser Itauma and Dillian Whyte will square off.

Everything's set in Riyadh for Saturday's card. Boxing fans can look forward to an action-packed night with two undefeated fighters battling for featherweight supremacy.
