Gervonta Davis won't fight Shakur Stevenson. That's what Tim Bradley thinks, and he's pretty sure about it.
Bradley, a former two-weight world champion and Hall of Fame inductee, shared his thoughts in a recent chat with Fight Hub TV. He believes 'Tank' Davis, the current WBA lightweight champ, will do everything he can to avoid stepping in the ring with Stevenson.
"Tank is not gonna fight Shakur Stevenson at all, at all. I don't care how much Turki [Alalshikh] offers, give him four Lamborghinis whatever, Tank ain't taking that fight."
Davis has been unbeaten since he turned pro back in 2013. He's racked up an impressive record of 31 wins, no losses, and 1 draw, with 28 of those wins coming by knockout. But his last fight in March at the Barclays Center in New York City ended in a majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr.
There were plans for a rematch with Roach, but those seem to have fallen through. Word on the street is that Davis didn't sign the deal.
On the other side of the ring, Stevenson's been busy too. He's the WBC lightweight champion and just defended his title for the third time. On July 12, he beat William Zepeda by unanimous decision at Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York City.
Fans have been hoping to see Davis and Stevenson square off for years now. It's the kind of mega-fight that gets people talking. But so far, it hasn't happened. And if Bradley's right, it might not happen at all.
Bradley didn't pull any punches in his interview with Fight Hub TV. He seemed pretty convinced that Davis is scared of the matchup with Stevenson.
So, for now, this dream fight remains just that - a dream. But in boxing, you never know what might happen next.
