Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Jr might not have their their rematch after all. The two fighters, to meet again after their controversial draw in March, but now it looks like the fight won't happen.
In their first bout, Davis kept his WBA world lightweight title in a split decision draw. Many people watching thought Roach should've won. The fight had a key moment in the ninth round when Davis took a knee. He said it was because he got grease from a recent hair appointment in his eye. The referee, Steve Willis, didn't call it a knockdown. That decision could've made a big difference for Roach, who was the underdog.
After the fight, they planned to do it again before the end of the year. August was even mentioned as a possible date. But now, Roach says it's not looking good.
"I ain't gonna lie, bro, I just think this n***a don't wanna fight, plain and simple. Remember when I told you all and I tweeted, when I tweeted the whole 'can't hold up his end of the [deal]', we still ain't get passed that so that s**t getting me mad bro, I'm not gonna lie."
Roach thinks Davis doesn't want to fight him again. And he might, there's talk of Davis maybe fighting Shakur Stevenson instead. Turki Alalshikh from Riyadh Season has been talking to both fighters' teams about a unification fight.
But there's another problem. Davis got arrested on Father's Day. He's been charged with battery of his ex-girlfriend. We don't know yet how this might affect his future fights.
If the rematch with Davis doesn't happen, Roach might have to look for other options. He still wants to become a two-weight world champion, so he'll probably keep pushing for big fights.
