John Fury has picked out the boxer he thinks will take over the heavyweight division when the current champions step away. Fury, father of retired heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, sees German fighter Agit Kabayel as the future ruler of the division.
In an interview with Seconds Out, John Fury shared his thoughts on the up-and-coming heavyweight talent:
"The man to look out for is Agit Kabayel, he's the danger man. I like what he does, him. Cool, calm, collected, takes a shot, gets off the floor and wins."
Kabayel has made a name for himself recently with impressive wins over top contenders. He stopped Zhilei Zhang with body shots, beat Arslanbek Makhmudov, and got the better of Frank Sanchez. These victories have put him on the map as a breakout talent in the heavyweight ranks.
The German fighter's next move will be a homecoming fight where he'll defend his WBC Interim belt. If he keeps winning, Kabayel could be in line for a world title shot by 2026.
John Fury doubled down on his praise for Kabayel:
"Agit Kabayel does it for me and I think at the end of the day day he can rock it with the best of them."
The heavyweight landscape is changing. Big names like Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk, Anthony Joshua, and Deontay Wilder are nearing the end of their careers. This opens the door for new talent to step up.
While some see fighters like Daniel Dubois, Joseph Parker, and Moses Itauma as the future of the division, John Fury thinks differently. He said:
"All these guys like Joe Parker, all the guys like them, they're the older school now, they've had their chance. Their time has been and gone."
Dubois, 27, will get his shot at glory in July when he faces Oleksandr Usyk at Wembley Stadium for a chance to become undisputed champion. Parker, at 33, still has gas in the tank, while many see Itauma as a potential star.
But in John Fury's eyes, it's Kabayel who stands out from the pack. The coming years will show if his prediction comes true.
