Amir Khan gets ready to make a splash in African boxing. The former unified world champion steps into a new role as a promoter, launching a big fight night in Ghana on June 13.
Khan's AK Promotions joins forces with Legacy Promotions to put on 'Explosive' Fight Night in Accra. The event aims to give African boxing a much-needed boost and create a new international boxing hotspot.
DAZN will stream the action, bringing it to a global audience. The main event pits American Andrew Tabiti (21-2, 17 KOs) against local favorite Jacob Dickson (14-1, 13 KOs) in a cruiserweight clash.
In the co-main event, British fighter Ohara Davies (25-4, 18 KOs) comes out of a short-lived retirement to face Tanzania's Mohammed Aliseni (22-9-3, 13 KOs).
The undercard features some exciting matchups too. Daniel Gorsh and Theophilus Allotey will battle for the WBO Africa Bantamweight Title. Ahmed Abdula and Haruna Mohammed will fight for the Ghana National Title. UK-based Shiloh Defreitas and Bulgarian Olympic prospect Radoslav Rosenov round out the card.
Khan shared his excitement about the event:
"Ghana is a place I would've loved to fight. The energy, the history, the passion for boxing is unreal. I'm not in the ring anymore, but I'm still fighting ā for the next generation."
Sharaf Mahama, CEO of Legacy Promotions, added:
"This isn't just a boxing event ā it's a statement."
African boxing often gets talked about but rarely gets the spotlight. Khan and his partners hope this event will change that, kicking off more focus on the continent's boxing talent.
The 'Explosive' Fight Night marks a new chapter for Khan. He moves from world champion to promoter, using his experience to create opportunities for up-and-coming fighters. For Ghana and African boxing, it could be the start of something big.
