Jose Benavides Sr, father and trainer of WBC light heavyweight champion David Benavides, is outraged over Saul Alvarez's plans to make fights with William Squall and Terence Crawford.
"What the hell did Scull accomplish? Who's Scull? I don't even know him. Terence Crawford? Come on. He looked really bad in his last fight. He's going up two weight classes. We tried to set up a heavyweight fight with Usyk, but David isn't ready to do that yet. I don't think Crawford is ready either.
So I see two easy fights for Canelo, and they're doing it. The people allow it, the organizers allow it. So he keeps doing it. Why not? Canelo says he can do whatever he wants, and he does whatever he wants.
They put on a circus and Canelo does what he wants. That's great for him. The organizers allow it. It doesn't matter what people say. They still let him do it," Benavides Sr. said.
The Alvarez vs. Crawford bout is expected to take place on Sept. 13 if Canelo beats William Scull in May.
